I’m actually writing this post on Sunday. I’m highly likely to be rather busy tomorrow, so I doubt I’ll find time to write. I’m also expecting to be super stressed, and not really looking on the bright side of life, so I thought I’d take the opportunity now, when I’m finally relaxed after a long and challenging evening and count my blessings.
Let’s rewind a little. Remember how, last Monday, I told you I was due to go on a surprise trip? Well, the surprise was pretty awesome. Turns out I was being whisked off to a city I’ve always wanted to visit and put up in a fancy hotel complete with a roof terrace and a pool. I’ve had a fantastic few days sightseeing, sipping Sangria and soaking up the sunshine. So much so, that when we woke up this morning I openly lamented the fact that I had to go home today. I reeeeeally didn’t want to. I wanted to stay right here for a few more days.
It seems someone was listening to my prayers. French Air Traffic Control, to be exact, because they went on strike today, meaning my flight, and any other flight due to pass through French air space, was cancelled. At the moment all we know is that we, and thousands of others, won’t be getting home on a plane without diverting via a few other countries, and as it stands right now all the trains out are full. So I got what I wanted! And yes, I do feel pretty dim for wishing that now! Seriously, be careful what you wish for!
I’m sure when I eventually get home I’ll be subject to much ribbing about the lengths I’ll go to for an extra day or two off, but the fact is, this is anything but a holiday! I have work that really needs to be done, I have no idea how I’m getting home and the whole thing is rather unnerving, but there really is nothing I can do about it now. All I can do now is lie back in this strange, Spanish hotel room, sip a cold beer and wait and see what tomorrow brings. At the very least it will be an adventure, and who knows? I might even manage to squeeze in another paella! For now, at least, I’m blocking it all out and pretending I’m still on holiday, and either way, it will be a story to tell.
Wish me luck!
