Outfit: Biker Ballerina

Biker Ballerina 8

I like to think I know my style by now. At the ripe old age of 35, I have made more than enough fashion faux pas to know what does and doesn’t suit me, and what I like. That isn’t to say I have a signature style though – I’m a fickle being with a passion for shopping, so it’s not too difficult to turn my head and my style choices change more frequently than the weather. But still, I know my tastes, and would normally argue that no-one could dress me better than myself.

Every now and then though, someone manages to surprise me. My friends and family frequently buy me clothes, but most of the time they stick to the tired and tested items – big skirts, 50s style dresses, killer heels… It isn’t particularly hard for them to be fair, this very blog is basically a ready prepared Birthday or Christmas list!! Sometimes though, one of them decides to go off piste and buy me something I never in a million years would have bought myself – and to my surprise, I almost always love them! Much like this skirt.

My bestie bought me this skirt a few years ago, and quite some time before I got so heavily into the 50s style frocks. At the time I was much more of a ‘jeans and a nice top’ kind of girl and would never have even thought of purchasing a pink, tulle skirt that is more than a little reminiscent of a tutu. And yet, despite my concerns that it may be a little too on the girly end of the spectrum for me, I found myself wearing it over and over again. So much so, that it might just be one of the oldest skirts on my collection (not including the vintage ones, of course) and yet is still in very regular rotation!

It’s very ballerina-esque in it’s appearance, so I like to play up to that a little by wearing my hair in a bun and pairing it with these lace up shoes, but I like to give it a bit of a tougher edge by throwing on my trusty leather jacket. Can’t have people thinking I’m too sweet and innocent now, can I?!
