Reasons to be Cheerful – Home Sweet Home

Home Sweet Home 1.jpg

I’ve talked a lot about how happy I am in my new home. It’s hard to describe how peaceful it feels in my soul to have a place that is mine, where I feel settled. It’s even more wonderful that I have someone to share it and build it with. It’s something I’m always aware of, but you never realise quite how much until you aren’t there.

At the moment I am still splitting my time between our house here in Loughborough and my parent’s home in Birmingham while I get driving and we work out a plan for doggy day care, so I’ve gotten used to only being here some of the time and living out of a suitcase. We’ve fallen into a pretty standard routine, and while it annoys me at times I barely notice any more.

The last two weeks though were a little different. My parents, who Bonnie usually spends daytimes with during the week, were on holiday in Italy for a week, and the following week Danny was off to Austria on a skiing trip. We’d worked out a schedule of working from home days so that Bonnie wouldn’t be alone too long, but it just worked out that it would be far easier to do it all from Birmingham, so early evening on Friday I finally got back having spent a whole 12 days away from home, and while it was all fine, it felt so good to be back! Originally as Dan wasn’t due back until Saturday we had a bit of a girl’s night in the tub planned, but people’s plans started falling through so we decided to reschedule for another time. A few people offered to have me over instead, but all I could think about was getting back to my little space! I think they wanted to make sure I wasn’t going to be lonely, but actually, I was kind of excited about having an evening to myself.

I popped to the shops to pick up some bits, I cooked myself a nice meal, ran a lovely hot bath which I enjoyed with an Audrey film and a G&T, and I pottered around doing the washing and tidying things up for Dan’s imminent arrival. The next morning the Bons (who got to sleep in our bed – shhhhh don’t tell Dan!) and I had a lovely long snuggle with crumpets and coffee while I caught up on my favourite blogs, and it was honestly blissful.

I love spending time with my friends and my family, but there isn’t really anything sweeter than your own home, is there?

Love,

Sig

  1. I bought my first condo about a year ago. It is on the small side, I didnt have much time to look as I travel a lot for my job. I plan on moving again in a few years but I LOVE my condo. It feels so good to come home and just be at peace there. I will be away from home another 5 weeks. Cant wait to be back home

    1. Aw, there is nothing better than coming home to your own space after some time away! Even if it’s only small there is just something very comforting about having your own things around you! x
