If my last Moments of Weakness post is anything to go by, I think we can all agree that restraint isn’t one of my key skills. Particularly when there is a sale in the offing. Something about a large discount just gets my engines revving, I seemingly can’t help myself.
Still, I like to think that throughout the last decade at least, I have grown up a little. I’ve always been a bit of a magpie when it comes to shopping, immediately attracted to the glint of a sequin or something shiny and pretty, which is how it has come to pass that I own quite so many pairs of glitzy shoes. But I also have gotten a lot better at knowing when to stop – I genuinely do love and wear everything I own, the only problem is I don’t wear them enough because there are so many pieces to get through!
Now, I’m not going to say I haven’t been swayed by the sales this year – there are plenty of confessions for my January Moments of Weakness post already and we’re only a week in! But the fact is, I could have bought way more, but I didn’t, because even I know when a bargain isn’t really a bargain.
Take this for example:

There is no denying that this is a steal. It’s less than half price people! And let’s face it, no-one could say a little black handbag is a particularly frivolous purchase – even if you were only allowed one handbag, you’d probably go black just to be safe. Being the lucky owner of a couple of Kate Spades already I can also verify that they are excellent quality and well worth the money. However, be all that as it may, I don’t only have one handbag. I have lots of them, so even if it would be an investment I can’t really justify spending more than £150 on a tiny little handbag. So it saddens me to say, this one won’t be mine….
Neither will these:

WHAT?? STEPH DOESN’T WANT THE ROSE GOLD SEQUINNED ON TO POINTS?? WHAT IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW?? Fact is, I do want them. I want them bad. If you’re a regular reader, you’ll know my Office On To Points are basically my best friends, so why the heck would I not want an extra shiny pair?? Well, because I already have rose gold sequin shoes. If fact, I only just posted about them yesterday! And I struggle enough to wear the rest of my excessive sparkly shoe supply as it is, so I’m going to have to avert my eyes from these. Especially as my size is the only one left. IT’S LIKE THEY’RE CALLING TO ME DAMMIT!
Similarly:

There is nothing that is not ‘me’ about this skirt! In case you hadn’t noticed, my go to occasion outfit is a big skirt. Specifically a big skirt that is shiny or sparkly in some way, so this one is right up my street. I am just itching to add this one to the collection, not least because the print is silver and I don’t own any silver ones (Oh god, I’m talking myself into it, aren’t I?!) but the fact is, I’ve decided this year it might be quite nice to try and wear something else for a change next time I have an occasion to attend? So I’m resisting…. for now…..
That’s pretty much the same reason I’m not buying this:

O god, I love this dress. I love most Chi Chi dresses to be honest, but the only problem with Chi Chi London is that they very much cater for the ‘fancy’ end of the style spectrum. This is not really the kind of dress you can wear to work or to buy milk. Well, I mean, you could, but all of that tulle might not be the most practical… Anyway, my point is, it isn’t even the kind of dress you can wear to an average party. It’s ‘special’ basically, and sadly I just don’t go to enough events where this kind of dress is appropriate. So I’m not going to buy it, I’m just going to spend the rest of my eternity weeping over that delicate lace overlay and sweet button detailing. Woe is me.
Lastly, these:

There is one reason and one reason alone I won’t be buying these. I simply am not cool enough to pull them off. I love looking at them – that bow! But it takes a special person to be able to wear cobalt blue ankle boots. Even more so, satin ones when you live in a country where it rains 90% of the time. It sucks, because I’d quite like to own them just because they’d look awesome on my shoe shelves, but that would be pretty stupid, so I won’t.
You could though – just because I can’t buy these beauties doesn’t mean you can’t. Though if you do, I might not talk to you for a while. So just bear that in mind, ok?
Love,
