You see this?
That is daylight! Only about 5 minutes of daylight to be fair, but daylight all the same, and that, my friends, makes me very happy indeed! I snapped this pic as I got off the train home from work last week at just after 5pm in the evening, marking the first time in a very long time that I’ve managed to make it home before the sunset!
You have no idea how happy this makes me! Sure, it’s still bloody cold. Sure, it’s still pitch black when I wake up. Sure, it’ll still be a good while before I’m walking the dog across the fields in the evening and going out without a jacket, but it’s a start. Change is a-coming, and I for one couldn’t welcome it warmly enough. There is just a month left of ‘official’ Winter and soon it will be Spring. Soon the weather will be (slightly) warmer, the days will be longer and I’ll be able to wear shoes again!
I’ve always found something energising about the coming of Spring, like I have a renewed motivation to get up and out of the house after months of languishing on the sofa every weekend. Everything just feels a little fresher and brighter somehow, and I feel just that little bit more ready to take on the world.
I probably wont, ’cause, you know, procrastination and all that, but the point is, everything feels possible. And that is most definitely something to feel cheerful about.
