Reasons to be Cheerful – Duvet Days

Today is officially the first day of Winter as far as I’m concerned. Apparently it’s not – Winter doesn’t really kick in until 1st December if you want to get all technical about it. But to me, today equals Winter, the main reason being that the clocks have gone back. Ok, so I guess yesterday was officially the start of Winter in that respect, but I can’t say I really noticed to be honest because it was Sunday and I had no plans to go outside really, daylight or no daylight. So today it is. Today is the day I basically am plunged into eternal darkness and any pretence that we might still get an Indian Summer is dashed. Well, maybe eternal darkness is a bit of an exaggeration. 5 months of darkness though – that’s a hell of a lot of darkness right there. It’s dark in the morning when I get to work and it’s dark in the evening when I leave and for what little bit of daylight there is in between I’ll mainly be sat at my desk, so it’s not the cheeriest of times for me. Especially when I’m on auto-pilot and forget I can no longer cut through the park on the way home, adding another 10 mins to my journey if I get off at the wrong stop (which, of course, I did). But being the positive little ray of sunshine that I am (HA!) I decided not to let this get me down today and look on the brightside. I mean, I have enough to whinge about right now, surely I can put a positive spin on this, right?

Wanna know what I came up with? Probably not I’m sure. But I’m going to tell you anyway. My lightbulb moment was this: when the day is cut dramatically shorter, I don’t half feel less guilty about wasting it. In fact, thinking about it, Summer puts an awful lot of pressure on us to get our asses out and ‘make the most of the day’. F*** you Summer! I WON’T go outside, and you can’t make me! I’m going to stay in my jammies and bed socks all day, not put on any make up or brush my hair, and nurse my deadly cold with honey and lemon (and gin). Any fun that’s going to be had will be happening somewhere indoors, SO THERE! For the next 5 months, I’m going out when I feel like it and not because I feel obligated to make hay while the sun shines! This might make blogging about my outfits kinda tricky though. Ah well, I was rubbish at outfit shots anyway! Here is the type of outfit shot you can look forward to over the next few months – A classic combination of dog-hair covered PJ’s, layered with a cosy knit and accessorized with stylish, fluffy bed socks, giving it a fresh pop of colour or some such crap. Don’t all rush to copy me at once….
