Reasons to be Cheerful – Trash TV

Trash TV
The Bons prefers a good Nature show herself, but what does she know, she’s just a pup….

In case you hadn’t noticed, I’m not cool. I am literally the least ‘trendy’ person I know. If I pop to the shops in my PJ’s, I look exactly like I’ve popped to the shops in my PJ’s, unlike some lucky ladies who look more like they’ve discovered a new trend in leisure wear that no-one is aware of yet. I definitely haven’t mastered the art of chucking your hair in a top knot and somehow looking red carpet ready. And my Spotify playlist? Well, let’s just say you’re unlikely to find anything older than around 2005 on there. Except maybe Taylor Swift. Which is just there for when my Nieces come round. Honest. So it should come as no surprise that I have a penchant for the cheesy. I like to pretend that it’s because I’m a bit of a goof and have a sense of humour, or maybe even just a desire to connect with my youth, but it’s actually just because I’m getting old and am a bit lame. This may also be why I’m a bit of a fan of trash TV…

Don’t get me wrong – I know what I’m watching is a bit cringey. There is nothing clever or informative about reality shows like Made in Chelsea or soap dramas like Gossip Girl, but that isn’t where the appeal lies for me. I’m an educated woman – I watch the news every morning, I discuss the political climate with my friends and colleagues and I love the odd documentary (I’m feeling kind of sad lately that there are very few Louis Theroux series left in my Netflix list that I haven’t seen yet) but sometimes when you’ve been using your  brain all day long it’s nice to let said brain (netflix and) chill for a while, you know?

Yep, today has been one of those days that makes me feel like I must have grey matter seeping out of my ears by now, but you know what? Watching Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt fight it out on Lip Sync Battle tonight made everything better. I mean, Anne Hathaway pretending to be Miley Cyrus, swinging about on a wrecking ball? How can you not be entertained by that? TV Gold right there. I’m not even ashamed.

So thanks, America, for bringing us Lip Sync Battle. Cool, it might not be, but it certainly took my mind off a day of challenge and torment. Now, if you don’t mind, I’m off to see if I can find the Channing Tatum vs Jenna Dewan episode online anywhere….

Love,

Sig
