I’m going to be 100% honest here – I like dogs more than I like people. Not all people, of course. I happen to have a little collection of wonderful people that I’m truly happy to have in my life. The vast majority of people, though, are just, well, just disappointing. I’ve wondered a lot to myself lately if maybe the problem is me, that I expect too much of people, but actually all I want back from people is the time and effort I give to them and I don’t think that is crazy request. Time and time again though people just seem to have a nasty habit of letting you down.
Dogs, on the other hand, could not be more different. Love a dog, and that dog will love you back, times a hundred. There are no conditions or hoops to jump through. There are no broken promises or insincere apologies or ‘sorry I forgot’ excuses. They just love you, end of. Sure, they will drive you nuts when they start barking at next door’s cat at 4am, and when they chew your favourite Steve Madden flats you will momentarily consider turning them over to Beagle Welfare there and then. Only for a second though, because you’ll just look into those big brown eyes and remember how awesome you feel when they greet you after a weekend away, and how cute they are when they’re sleepy, and best off all, how when you need it the most they will climb into your lap for a cuddle.
I don’t know how they do it, but they seem to have a sixth sense for your need to feel loved, those sweet little creatures, and they will be only too willing to show you that you’re their everything. God love ’em, when their human counterparts let the side down, they don’t half know how to step up.
Thanks for the snuggles today, little Bons, I really needed them!
P.S – I would offer her out for hire, like therapy, except for, you know, the fact that she’s deranged and stuff. Still, you should definitely get a dog though. Seriously, it works!
