I’m not a fan of fashion rules. In fact, I make a concerted effort not to follow any, as I explained in this post. I just don’t like being told what I can and can’t wear – simple as. Thing is though, I seem to have some unwritten fashion rules in my head that I just can’t help but follow, no matter how hard I try.
One of them is black and white polka dots with red accessories. I’m not sure where this ‘rule’ started, but I’m gonna go ahead and blame Minnie Mouse. I mean, she’s always prancing around, looking so darn cute, I guess she must have influenced me in my early fashion forming years or something. Come to think of it, maybe that’s why I also love bows so much? Either way, these days I find it incredibly hard to wear any colour other than red whenever I put on some black and white polka dots. It just seems so natural! It’s a combo I turn to over and over, last seen here and here.
As soon as I saw this Mela dress in New Look I knew I was going to want it – I was after a few more long sleeved dresses, and it was smack bang in the middle of my wanting everything wrap shaped with ruffles phase, so wrap shaped, with long sleeves, ruffles AND polka dots was just too good to pass up! More than that, I knew exactly how I would wear it – with my beloved red Zara flats! There was just no question that red shoes were the perfect companion for this sweet little frock, and as much as I feel like I should make more efforts to be more creative, I just can’t regret a combo this good.
I doubt very much this will be the last time I wear these two together!
Love,
In this post: Mela Polka Dot Dress, New Look (Still available in Navy) – Red Lace Up Flats, Zara (Similar) – Necklaces, Forever 21 (Similar)
This outfit is very “modern rockabilly” if that makes any sense. Red lips really pull the look together, love it!

Thank you so much! I actually take that as a real compliment, I adore 50s fashion, but I like to give a nod to the era and mix with more modern pieces rather than go full on retro as Iām just too fickle! Glad you enjoyed, thanks for reading x
