It’s been a funny old week.
Originally I’d had quite a lot of posts planned, but we received some very sad news last weekend that took us by surprise and in the aftermath it just seemed a bit odd to be writing about party outfits or things I wanted to buy, so I ended up not writing anything at all. That on top of the usual Christmas stress and mania left me feeling a little glum up until this morning.
Despite the nasty shock though I’m trying not to dwell on the bad things. Things like that really make you realise how short life is, and how lucky we are to have the people in our lives. So instead of focussing on the terrible and unfair circumstances under which we recently lost someone dear, I’m choosing to think about how blessed I am to have known them, and feel grateful for the other wonderful people I have around me. It always seems more poignant somehow, a loss of life at this time of year, but it is also a time we tend to have all those we love the most all together in one room so it’s a great opportunity to give them a squeeze and appreciate what they bring to your life (other than the usual Christmas Day squabbles of course!)
We aren’t seeing most of our family until tomorrow, so the proper festivities will start then, but so far today we’ve had a lovely, relaxed day, unwrapped some wonderful presents and eaten and drank a lot, and I’m thinking warm, happy thoughts instead of sad ones.
Here’s wishing you all a magical festive period!
Love,
