Well, this isn’t a colour I’m seen in very often, is it??
Yellow is one of those colours I’ve always admired from afar. I love it’s bright, sunny qualities, but when it comes to actually wearing it, I’ve always shied away a little. It’s just so brave, and loud, and in your face. Unless you’re talking about a gentle, pastel shade, you can’t really blend into the background when you’re wearing yellow, can you? But every time I see someone else wearing it I can’t help but chastise myself for not daring to wear the lovely hue, and so I willed myself to suck it up and give it a go.
Well, I don’t do things by halves, do I?? I couldn’t just ease myself in with a little accent colour or some mustard accessories, could I? No, I had to go for the brightest, most in your face shade of yellow I could find! Not just that, but also a bold, 70’s style print in a clashing cobalt blue! Of course I did.
I always loved the style of this dress when I first spotted it in Primark a few years ago, with it’s retro A-line skirt and cute little peekaboo detail on the back. Originally it was the plain old black and white version I wanted, but either way both versions eluded me. Recently though, when looking for a replacement for one of my favourite blue Primark tea dresses this version popped up, so I decided to be brave and give it a go! And there seemed no better opportunity to give it a test run than a rum festival on the hottest day of the year! It was one of those days when every thing appears as though in technicolour, not that the frock needed and enhancement! Unfortunately it was a bit too hot to even enjoy all the tipples on offer and we retreated to a quieter, darker pub for some shade, but I enjoyed it while it lasted, and to be fair, I fit right in with all the bright and gaudy cocktails and flags!
So maybe I can pull off yellow after all? Might have to get a bit more of a tan before I don this one again though…!
