So, as I sat down to write this post I was busy congratulating myself. You see, up until about 5 minutes ago I thought I was writing a post about how very well behaved I’ve been this month. All those sequined dresses, all those glittery shoes, all that shopping I had to do – and yet, as far as I could remember, I had managed to get through the whole festive month with just one purchase! A glittery, sequined purchase to be fair, but still! Just one thing with all that lovely, sparkly temptation beckoning at every corner! I was pretty chuffed with that. I must be growing, I thought, and I was feeling pretty darn smug with myself.
But then I looked down at the dress I was wearing that very moment, and realised it was one of three, count them three, garments that ‘accidentally’ ended up in my basket while buying gifts for my sisters in New Look. Oh. Oopsie. So I guess I haven’t grown at all, I’m still a filthy, dirty spendthrift after all. But heck, it was Christmas, and there was a sale on, and if you can’t treat yourself at Christmas, when can you?
Please don’t answer that, it’s the only defense I’ve got….
Anyway, onto the offending items! First into the basket was this rather adorable polka dot wrap dress, which you may well remember from my November Lust Haves post:
Yeah, I waited all of, ooooh, a week or two before buying it. I’ve also just realised it wasn’t even in the sale, so that excuse has just withered before my very eyes. It is in the sale now though, of course, because life is just like that, isn’t it? Luckily for me the ruffled wrap dress trend doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon, so I’m sure I won’t lose too much sleep over it.
I also inexplicably found myself in possession of this:
Why yes, that is indeed another dress off the exact same wish list post! Yes, I really am that weak!! Unlike the wrap dress, which is completely me and perfectly compatible with my existing pieces, I’m on the fence about this one. I still love it, and it’s actually even prettier in real life thanks to a slightly metallic thread running through it that you can’t really see very well in the product pics, but I’m a little bit uncertain as to whether I can really pull this off! I keep seeing those Insta girls rocking similar 70s style frocks with ankle boots and leather jackets, looking awesome, but I’m a little concerned I’m just not cool enough. Still, I’ll give it a go! I shall attempt to photograph it as part of an outfit post soon and you’ll have to let me know your verdict!
Finally on the great New Look splurge of 2017 as it will now be known from here on in – this rather sweet little wrap top:
In answer to the question I just know you are dying to ask right now, no. No you can never have enough polka dots. This is fact. So there.
And the sparkle? Well that came in the form of this ridiculously frivolous sequinned skirt, which is one of River Islands creations from yonks ago:
I’ve been after a sequined midi for years now, with this exact one in mind as inspo, but I never thought I’d actually track the very same one down about 5 years after it was released. But somehow I did, just the week before Christmas I spotted one on eBay, brand new with tags and under £30, and snapped it up, quick. It was basically a miracle – A CHRISTMAS MIRACLE I TELL YOU! And to honor it I even made it my Christmas Day outfit. I look forward to boring you all with the pics very soon, in fact!
So yeah, hardly restrained. And with pay day just T-minus 2 days to go, Christmas money burning a hole in my pocket and a million emails screaming FURTHER REDUCTIONS!!! in my inbox that’ unlikely to have changed by my next post. But then that’s why you love me right? You’ll always look sensible compared to me!
